“We often avoid painting outside because it’s just too much trouble! We lug along a lot of stuff, and we want our paintings to be perfect. In fact, we can minimize the stuff and the trouble by simplifying. I hope to have a fun session of splashing around and enjoying the process.” – Susan Blakeslee

About the Artist
Susan Blakeslee, a life-long resident of Brevard County, is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor.
Her paintings frequently depict scenes from nature – either landscapes or wildlife, and she credits her love of nature to a childhood spent on and around the Indian River. She loves painting en plein air at the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge and the Viera Wetlands. When she can’t stop and paint, she takes photographs and paints at home. She also paints people, particularly “park people,” whose photos she takes on walks in and around Cocoa Village.
She has attended several landscape painting workshops in Scotland, has taught at Senior Adventures in Learning (SAIL) in Melbourne, at the Central Brevard Art Association, BWS, as well as privately. Additionally, she has conducted art workshops for underprivileged students – and staff – at a project in Uganda.
