About the Artist
Ed Carlson captures the charm of weathered fishing shacks, quiet waterways, and coastal life in his expressive watercolor paintings. Originally from upstate New York and now based in Satellite Beach, Ed paints the places he loves most—scenes full of light, texture, and timeworn beauty. His work reveals a fascination with the character of old coastal structures, their crooked lines, sun-bleached wood, and the way light shifts across their surfaces throughout the day. His subjects range from nautical vignettes and tropical landscapes to snowy scenes that recall his northern upbringing, each piece infused with atmosphere and storytelling.
In addition to his own work, Ed shares his love of watercolor through teaching. His playful, encouraging approach helps students loosen up, take risks, and rediscover the joy of painting—whether by experimenting with unconventional brushes or learning to see with a childlike sense of wonder. Mentored by master watercolorist Tom Jones, who describes him as a “natural talent with passion,” Ed’s paintings reflect not only technical skill but also a life lived close to the water, celebrating the textures, colors, and rhythms of the coastal world he loves.
