BWS Plein Air Group
If you are new to painting outdoors or new to our group you may wonder what it’s all about. We are a small group that meets every Tuesday so you will get to know us quickly. The locations throughout Brevard County are sent out by email and posted in our public Facebook Group, and include parks, marinas, piers, beaches, historical homes, gardens, villages, store fronts, and monuments. We mainly use watercolor, pen and ink, gouache or watercolor pencils, but just sketching or photographing is a great way to enjoy being out in beautiful Florida and sharing time with other artists. Sit for a few minutes and look around at nature. Let all your senses have an experience. Get an idea of the mood and composition in your mind. There is always time to do a quick thumbnail value sketch. Place yourself so direct sunlight is not hitting your paper or paints.
Some suggestions of what to bring: paper, paint, pencil, eraser, brushes, tissues, water and container, hard surface to paint on, palette, chair, easel, hat, bug spray, sunblock, umbrella, drink. Be comfortable.
Join us and see how the immediacy of painting on the spot will improve your skills.

Purpose
Outdoor painting is popular because it allows the artist direct observation and all the senses are stimulated.
It is fun to capture fleeting moments of daily life, passing clouds, the sounds of birds, and natures colors.
Brevard County offers many and varied locations: parks, beaches, historical and memorial sites, marinas, piers, villages, gardens, and churches.
Suggested items to bring:
- Chair (Often there are covered benches)
- Umbrella
- Hat
- Sunscreen
- Bug Repellant
- Camera
- Paper Towels
- Paper clipped or taped to a hard surface
- Paints
- Water and Container
- Refreshing drink
- And a Smile
Note
All of the above is subject to change based on input from those interested in participating and on weather conditions (hard rain, heat). Those who wish to be notified of last minute cancellations must provide Jan Faerber or Rose Allen with phone number. The specific meeting place will be manned each date until 9:15am. Feel free to scatter from the meeting place to stake out your “spot”.
