SUMMARY:Mini Workshop - Brusho with Jan Jamil
DESCRIPTION:Wickham Park Community Center\n2815 Leisure Way\, Melbourne FL 32935 \n“Somethin’ Fishy” Brusho Play Day with Jan\nBasic Brusho Techniques we’ll explore with our fish:\n \n\nControlled: Drawing fish with only water\, dropping small bits of powder in. Remember Less is more!! And hold the Brusho bottle down close to your paper. Let it sit for a minute to activate. Dust off extra powder. Then using a damp brush\, move paint around to create fins and tails.\nDry application: dropping the powder on dry paper. Spritzing with water (which scatters the powder everywhere)\, or using a wet brush over the powder to create washes of color. Create beautiful backgrounds for later after it dries!\nWet in wet – applying powders to wet surface: Dropping/sprinkling powder on spritzed surface. Remember: less is more! And hold the Brusho bottle down close to your paper. Tilt\, blow\, run\, blot. (Lift off excess water with paper towel or tissue). Use a brush to create seaweed and corals for a background.\nBleach (50-70% diluted with water): Using diluted bleach in a brush pen to lift out highlights. Or use the brush pen with a stencil.\nEmbellishment: Using gel pens\, Posca markers\, etc after your painting has dried.\nCollage: use your test papers to cut or tear into shapes. Glue them on a dry Brusho background.\nCards: Father’s Day is just around the corner!\n\nSupplies:\n\n\n\nPaper towels\n2 Water containers\nSet of watercolors/palette\nWatercolor papers (cheap is fine)\nBacking boards to tape papers to\nDisposable gloves\nApron\nFine mist spray/spritz bottles\nMasking tape\nOld watercolor brushes\nPencil\n\n\n\nOptional things you might bring: Brusho powdered pigments (if you have it\, or you can use mine)\, markers\, Posca acrylic markers\, white or gold gel pen\, glue stick\, and white crayon. \nBrusho Tips:\n\nLess is more! Less powder! Less water! Less messing once dropped!\nDon’t open the bottle! The best way to use Brusho is to leave the cap on but pierce the top with a thumbtack. This allows you to sprinkle a little Brusho at a time. A little goes a long way! When storing\, leave the thumbtack in as a stopper.\nIt Floats!!! Fans\, wind\, spritzing\, and hair dryers scatter powder everywhere! This ultra fine powder floats and drifts off. Turn off fans. Be careful of sprays when spritzing dry powder. Protect/cover up other areas. People with respiratory issues should probably wear a mask.\nBrusho stains everything it touches! Protect surfaces\, clothing\, manicures. Gloves recommended.\nSprinkle light colors first. Choose colors that go well together. Remember if you mix all 3 primaries it = muddy colors.\nIf you use bleach\, make sure its in a brush marker. Blot quickly. Let it dry. \nBefore framing. When thoroughly dry\, hold the painting over a large trash can and dust off the extra crystals and powder. Apply 2 or 3 coats of a high quality\, archival spray lacquer with UV protectant – like Golden or Lascaux sprays. Always use the clear lacquer first so your darks don’t dull down. You can use a matte lacquer for the final coat.\n\nCost:\nMembers – FREE\nNon-Members – $20 \nRegistration Form\nPlease complete and submit the form below to register. Limited to 32 participants\, first priority given to members. Non-members and guests pay at the workshop. Questions? Contact bwsminiwkshp@gmail.com. \nWe're sorry\, this workshop has reached its maximum entry capacity. Please email bwsminiwkshp@gmail.com if you wish to be added to the waiting list.

SUMMARY:Mini Workshop - Portraits with Linda Neal
DESCRIPTION:Wickham Park Community Center\n2815 Leisure Way\, Melbourne FL 32935 \nInstructor – Linda Neal\nWhether a new or accomplished watercolor artist\, you should try your hand at a portrait. Don’t be intimidated! Linda Neal asks\, “Which is more difficult\, a cloud or a portrait? For me\, the answer is simple – a cloud.” \nCome join Linda and give it a try or pick up a tip or technique to add to your current skill level. \nYou will not need to draw. You will trace your portrait onto the watercolor paper. Linda will be demonstrating how to paint the facial features during the times that we must let our portrait dry. \nSupplies:\n\nArches 300Lb.Cold Press 100% cotton watercolor paper (10” x 13” allowing for outside margin) and additional paper used for examples of facial features**\nKing Art #10 & #12 brushes**\nFine detail brush**\nWinsor Newton New Gamboge & Scarlet Lake (for flesh tones)**\nStandard colors by Daniel Smith**\nA good candid headshot of your subject sized to fit on 8 ½” x 11” bond paper\nOther typical supplies: Tape\, paper towels\, water reservoirs\, transfer paper\, #2 pencil.\n\n**If you don’t have these specific supplies\, bring professional quality paints\, brushes and 100% cotton watercolor paper. \nNotes: \n\nYour reference photo should be forward facing. Eyes do not need to be looking straight forward. Do not transfer your reference photo beforehand\, as that will be part of the process Linda will take us through at the workshop.\nIf you have a portrait in progress\, one to start\, finish or show\, feel free to bring it.\nLinda will provide a head shot reference photo if you don’t have one to bring.\n\nLinda Neal:\nBefore trying watercolors\, I worked in other mediums as a portrait artist participating for 20 years in the juried art show circuit in Oklahoma\, Texas\, and Florida. I earned my share of awards and publicity but was ready for a new challenge when I moved to Florida. Trying my hand at watercolor for the first time\, it seemed unmanageable compared to charcoals\, oils\, or pastels. My initial frustration soon turned into determination\, then passion. The flow of water and brilliant colors paints itself into crystal\, water\, and the “dreaded” landscape! My passion for watercolor has turned into the joy of teaching it to others. I have taught in Brevard for 24 years wherever an interested group will gather. \nI paint in layers on 300# Cold Press Arches\, starting with a very loose\, wet underpainting to give the final painting a glow that comes through the transparent colors. Each layer is allowed to dry and becomes more detailed as I work wet-into-wet\, mixing colors as I go. I mask areas in different layers when necessary and change brushes and brush strokes as needed. With an eye for detail\, I work intuitively as I think ahead\, visualizing shapes and saving whites\, allowing myself to be a spectator as my brush dances across the paper. I strive to capture\, hold\, and entertain myself and the viewer with the use of color\, value\, and emotional appeal. I paint for the bliss; it’s who and what I am. \nCost:\nMembers – FREE\nNon-Members – $20 \nRegistration Form\nWe're sorry\, this workshop has reached its maximum entry capacity. SUMMARY:Mini Workshop - Cartooning & Watercolor Fun with Verne Foster
DESCRIPTION:Wickham Park Community Center\n2815 Leisure Way\, Melbourne FL 32935 \nInstructor – Verne Foster\n“Cartooning is all about options and what you choose to do with them. Together\, we will be drawing different facial expressions. I will demonstrate body types\, animal types and clothing or fur if any. Together we will explore the possible characteristics of your cartoon character. Then we will use watercolor to flesh it out and make the character dimensional. And perhaps put them into a scene.” – Verne Foster \nVerne has been drawing pretty much her whole life with whimsy\, comical and fun being in the forefront of her illustration style. SUMMARY:Mini Workshop - Creating the Illusion of Depth with Ed Carlson
DESCRIPTION:Wickham Park Community Center\n2815 Leisure Way\, Melbourne FL 32935 \nInstructor – Ed Carlson\nParticipants will be painting “Miller’s Marina\,” by Ed Carlson. Teaching points are: Creating the illusion of depth with color\, shadows and values. And\, painting reflections. \nArtists will use: \n\ncerulean blue\nultramarine blue deep\nhooker’s green deep\nraw sienna\, burnt sienna\npermanent red deep\nblue violet\nlemon yellow\n\nSketch will be provided in the confirmation reminder email to the registrants\, one week before the workshop. \nAbout the Artist\nEd Carlson captures the charm of weathered fishing shacks\, quiet waterways\, and coastal life in his expressive watercolor paintings. Originally from upstate New York and now based in Satellite Beach\, Ed paints the places he loves most—scenes full of light\, texture\, and timeworn beauty. His work reveals a fascination with the character of old coastal structures\, their crooked lines\, sun-bleached wood\, and the way light shifts across their surfaces throughout the day. His subjects range from nautical vignettes and tropical landscapes to snowy scenes that recall his northern upbringing\, each piece infused with atmosphere and storytelling. \nIn addition to his own work\, Ed shares his love of watercolor through teaching. His playful\, encouraging approach helps students loosen up\, take risks\, and rediscover the joy of painting—whether by experimenting with unconventional brushes or learning to see with a childlike sense of wonder. Mentored by master watercolorist Tom Jones\, who describes him as a “natural talent with passion\,” Ed’s paintings reflect not only technical skill but also a life lived close to the water\, celebrating the textures\, colors\, and rhythms of the coastal world he loves. \nCost:\nMembers – FREE\nNon-Members – $20 \nRegistration Form\nWe're sorry\, this workshop has reached its maximum entry capacity. SUMMARY:Mini Workshop - Atmospheric Skies with Lynn Tweed
DESCRIPTION:Wickham Park Community Center\n2815 Leisure Way\, Melbourne FL 32935 \nIn our August mini workshop\, we’ll be CREATING ATMOSPHERE! \nFrom instructor Lynn Tweed: “I’m thinking of a blue stormy look\, or a beautiful pink orange sunset with minimal landscapes; something like these (pictured below). I’ll bring color copies of some of my favorites along with a book about painting skies that you can look through for inspiration.” \n \n \nYou’ll be using 11×15 paper for the demo\, but bring whatever size you’re comfortable with – 9×12 or 8×10 will work too. Bring your regular supplies\, along with transfer paper if you need it\, and include a large round or flat brush for painting the skies. Lynn will have brushes if you need to borrow one. \nInstructor Lynn Tweed\nLynn Tweed grew up in Florida and has an art degree from University of Florida. After a career at the space center and time raising kids\, she returned to her art roots and took up watercolor painting. She likes painting nature\, especially landscapes\, and enjoys being out with Brevard Watercolor Society’s plein air group. Lynn believes the natural world has a lot to offer\, and her loose\, painterly style can always be seen in her art work. She teaches watercolor classes in Titusville in the fall and spring\, and is a member of Brevard Watercolor Society\, North Brevard Art League\, and Florida Watercolor Society. To see Lynn’s work\, visit http://www.lynntweed.com/. \nCost:\nMembers – FREE\nNon-Members – $20 \nRegister below: \nWe're sorry\, this workshop has reached its maximum entry capacity. SUMMARY:Let the Paint Flow with Carol Marshall
DESCRIPTION:Landscapes that are loose\, minimalistic and contemporary is what this workshop is all about. Let those beautiful colors flow and do the work. Create landscapes that are simple in color and design which are pleasing to the eye. \nCarol will begin by demonstrating for you the technique of wet in wet and also a dry to wet method to really get the paint flowing. \nYou will practice the timing of water and paint. Plus the all important paint-to-water ratio needed to have the colors flow into organic shapes. This will help create the contemporary landscape. This approach can be used in all your watercolors and is especially helpful with florals. \nWe will be working small (8×10 and 5×7)\, the easiest way to begin learning this style of watercolor. \nLocation:\nWickham Park Community Center\, 2815 Leisure Way\, Melbourne FL 32935 \nTime:\n10:00am-2:00pm \n \n\nRegistration:\nPlease complete and submit the form below.\nPlease enable JavaScript in your browser to complete this form.BWS Member Name *FirstLastEmail *Phone *Are You Bringing a Guest? *No\, I am not bringing a guestYes\, I am bringing a guestGuest Name *FirstLastCustom Captcha *What is 2+4? \n \n \n\n WebsiteSubmit
