SUMMARY:Quick Sketch Portraits in Watercolor with Pam Wenger
DESCRIPTION:Learn to paint portraits in watercolor in a spontaneous style that involves minimal layering and the use of transparent colors. In this workshop\, we will analyze some of the common mistakes that are made when working on portraits in watercolor and look at examples of successful watercolor portraits by artists from around the world. \n“My portrait paintings are my real love – it’s hard to explain the excitement of trying to connect with the essence of a person through their expression… their pose… their placement in the composition.” – Pam Wenger \nPainting portraits in watercolor can seem like a daunting task\, but many of us can’t resist the urge to try it. We may have a loved one who we’d like to paint or we may simply be drawn to the challenge of capturing an interesting character on paper. It’s so easy to “tighten up” our portrait paintings because of our focus on “getting it right.” \nIn this 3-Day workshop you will focus on loosening up the portrait painting process and working to achieve a more relaxed look that highlights the beauty and freshness of the watercolor medium. Pam will share her process with you and encourage you to create your own. \nDays 1 & 2 – you will paint from Pam’s references\, using the partially pre-drawn portraits she provides.\nDay 3 – you will work from your own reference on your own paper. \nHours\n9:00am to 4:00pm \nCost\n$350 for BWS members\, $400 for nonmembers.\n$50 deposit required to reserve your spot.\nFinal payment due by 11/1/25.\nQuestions? Contact Laurie Griffin\, (321) 544-3041\, lbgriffi@att.net \nVisit Pam Wenger’s website at pamwenger.com. \nWorkshop is FULL! If you have registered and made a deposit\, please pay the balance by November 1\, 2025 by using the form below.\n\nRegistration Completion\nPlease enable JavaScript in your browser to complete this form.Name *FirstLastPhone *Email *Payment (choose one): *Balance after deposit (BWS Member) - $300.00Balance after deposit (Non-Member) - $350.00MessageSubmit & Pay

SUMMARY:Paint-along with Vlad Yeliseyev on July 22\, 12 – 4 via Zoom.
DESCRIPTION:Cost is $70 for members\, $95 for nonmembers. \nTo register please send an email to lbgriffi@att.net.  The website is being setup for you to pay online –  https://brevardwatercolorsociety.org/events/category/workshops/ or mail a check to \nLaurie Griffin \n4825 Winchester Drive \nTitusville\, FL 32780. \nPlease register as soon as possible so we can provide the number of participants to Vlad by July 1st and confirm our event.  The picture we will be painting\, is below.  Vlad is currently traveling and painting in Croatia and will pick a scene from his current trip for us.  If you have questions please contact Laurie Griffin\, lbgriffi@att.net. \n  \n \nAbout Vlad:\nVlad Yeliseyev is a  Russian émigré came to the United States in the 1980s equipped with a classical art education from Moscow School of Art and a Master’s Degree in architecture from the Moscow Institute of Architecture. Now a renowned watercolor and plein air artist\, his paintings are in personal and commercial collections worldwide. Vladislav currently works from his studio in Sarasota\, Florida\, where he spends most of the day painting. “I am a constant student of my craft\,” he admits. His work is often praised for his unique ability to reflect light in his paintings. Critics noted his bold brushwork\, expert loose color passages\, and crisp well edited calligraphy in his paintings. To achieve this effect\, Vladislav (Vlad) prefers to use rough watercolor paper and combinations of brush techniques. “The challenge with watercolor\,” Vlad explains\, “is to achieve richness in color and not to lose the transparency.” With painstaking use of limited brushwork in his art\, Vlad creates paintings which give a sense of depicted objects rather than their details\, while maintaining the transparent colors unique to watercolor. “I use a palette of warm colors a lot\, like ochre and burnt umber\,” says Vlad. “I now just use 15 colors in my palette.” Look for his favorite colors – burnt sienna\, cobalt turquoise\, gold ochre – in the majority of his artwork.  “There should be something not said in a painting\, something that gives the luxury of interpretation to the viewer. And there lies the poetry”\, he says “Poetry on the page is minimalistic in the number of words it uses. The challenge for me as an artist is how to say a lot with minimal brushstrokes”. Vladislav has won numerous awards and is an exhibiting member of many art societies nationwide\, and a signature member of American Impressionist Society\, National Watercolor Society\, and Florida Watercolor Society. \nIn my paintings I would like to express the beauty of landscapes through variation of natural light conditions and individual approaches to interpretation of color in real life. I would like not to merely pick up the colors from the natural environment but to reinvent them right on my canvas.  My goal is to express the beauty of various landscapes and cityscapes by showing architectural elements\, street life and their playful integration with the light conditions. \n  \nThe picture we will be painting:\n  \n \nhttps://www.yeliseyevfineart.com/ \nREGISTRATION FORM\nPlease enable JavaScript in your browser to complete this form.Name *FirstLastPhone *Email *Membership Status *Member - $70.00Non-Members - $95.00NameSubmit & Pay \n

SUMMARY:Pat Dews (AWS\, D.F.\, NWS) - a three-hour lecture and demonstration via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:The Brevard Watercolor Society invites you to join\nPat Dews (AWS\, D.F.\, NWS)\nfor a three-hour lecture and demonstration via Zoom\nSaturday\, June 24\, 2023\, 10:00 am\nin collaboration with the New Studio for the Visual Arts in Jupiter Florida \nPat will present her own finished works and describe her process of abstracting from nature to create compositions. Painting and drawing techniques such as cropping\, collaging\, painting with washes\, creating textures\, and composing strata pieces will be demonstrated. \n  \n \n  \nBWS is covering the cost of this event for members.\nNon-members are invited to attend for $5\n(must be paid in advance in order to receive connection details.) \nTo register please contact Laurie Griffin\, lbgriffi@att.net – (321) 544-3041. \nMore about the artist: \nPat Dews\, a graduate of The Fashion Institute of Technology\, New York City is a signature member and Dolphin Fellow of the American Watercolor Society\, the National Watercolor Society\, the National Collage Society\, the New Jersey Water Color Society\, San Diego Watercolor Society\, and the Florida Watercolor Society. \nDews’ creates experimental works in watermedia on paper and canvas.  She paints the abstract essence of nature.  The shapes and textures of flowers\, rocks\, water\, crumbled walls\, rusty objects are translated into richly layered paint surfaces.  Collage is often integrated.  Dews skillfully juggles organic and geometric forms\, transparent and opaque paint – all held together by a basic abstract underlying shape.  It is this intricate dance\, rendered in strong color and value which produces her award-winning paintings.  When Pat paints\, it is a lively\, fascinating performance as she shows that\, with the simplest tools\, less can become more\, much more. \nPat’s awards include Second Place in the 33rd Annual Artist’s Magazine\, Abstract/Experimental category for her painting\, “Overpass.” Dews’ received the Mary Bryan Memorial Award at the American Watercolor Society 150th International Exhibition 2017\, the Edgar Whitney Memorial Award at the 149th American Watercolor International Exhibition\, 2016\, the Paul B. Remmey\, AWS\, Memorial Award at the 148th American Watercolor Society International Exhibition\, 2015\, and the China Zou Yinong Silver Award-China/NWS Small Image Exhibition\, 2016. Dews’ paintings were represented in the 2015 Small Image Exchange and the 2015 Shenzhen International Biennial Exhibition\, China. \nPat is the author of [the painter’s workshop] Creative Composition & Design\, 2003\, (ebook) and Creative Discoveries in Watermedia\, 1998\, published by North Light Books.  Her work has appeared in numerous books and publications. Dews’ videos\, Designing Great Starts with Texture and Form and Let’s Get Started Finishing are available through Cheap Joe’s Art Stuff.  Pat is also one of 10 women artists in “her voice 10 Contemporary Women Watermedia Masters”\, curated by Laurie Goldstein Warren. \nPat is an enthusiastic\, popular instructor\, teaching workshops internationally. She takes great delight in her students’ many successes. Pat lives in Hobe Sound\, Florida.  She is represented by Ambleside Gallery\, 528 South Elm Street\, Greensboro\, NC 27406 and William Ris Gallery\, 1291 Main Rd\, Jamesport\, NY 11947\,  M&M Studios 1445 Jupiter Park Dr.\, Unit #1\, Jupiter\, FL 33458 and The New Studio for the Visual Arts\, 1615 S Cyprus Dr Suite 1\, Jupiter\, FL 33469. \nWeb Site: www.patdews.com

SUMMARY:Mini Workshop with Barb Rios - Getting Creative with your Lemons
DESCRIPTION: GETTING CREATIVE WITH YOUR “LEMONS” \nMini Workshop by Barbara Rios. Turn your disappointments into an opportunity to have FUN! Saturday\, May 28\, 10am – 3pm (extended time)\, Wickham Community Center\, bring a lunch! \nNot only did your painting not turn out to be a masterpiece\, but look at the money you wasted on expensive materials!  Don’t let this stifle the “child” in you to play\, experiment and be creative. What you perceive as a failure can be repurposed today or 10 years from now. Use the back\, add other materials\, throw it in the tub\, cut it up\,  gesso over it\, or keep to show how far you have advanced. How else do you expect to learn and finally create a something YOU are proud of? \nIf you are a watercolor purist\, your head may spin at all the materials that can be used to create “something [that] wasn’t before”.  Think like a child who\, as we know\, has absolutely no thought of cost! \nBring some of your “non Masterpieces” to work on\, exchange them with someone who sees promise. or to get the opinions of other artists.  You are encouraged to bring materials with which to experiment:  scissors\, acrylics\, tissue paper\, crayons\, markers\, scrap cloth\, pastels\, templates\, saran wrap\, found objects\, Mr. Clean pads\, rollers\, magazine cutouts\, WHATEVER you think will inspire you!  Barbara will provide many materials for your experimentation\, but a small contribution would be appreciated.  \nExamples of some of Barbara’s recreated artwork will be shown\, hopefully as inspiration. \nTo register\, please send email to Laurie at lbgriffi@att.net.  Attendance is limited to 30.  If something comes up and you are not able to attend please send Laurie an email and let us know so someone else can take your slot.

SUMMARY:Colorful Shadows with Jan Faerber - Via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:Instructor – Jan Faerber \nInstructions:  \nIdeally you should use a quarter sheet  (15” x 11”) for this project.  If you open the attached line drawing in Adobe Acrobat select poster when you open the print dialog  and it will print the image across 2 8 1/2” x 11” pieces of paper that you can piece back together to trace. \nDraw lightly with pencil from lined picture given \, the actual leaves and their shadows on  11×15\, 140# watercolor paper.   \nShade lightly the shadows with pencil.  \nUse your regular palette and supplies.  It’s easier to have Payne’s gray or a substitute ready for the shadows\, but we will be dropping some colors into the shadows while they are wet.  We will be learning about shadows as they come close to objects and how they look the farther away they become.  There are diffuse shadows in the background   of the photo  from a palm tree that is not shown.   \n \nWeb – Please contact Laurie Griffin\, lbgriffi@att.net for meeting information
