DESCRIPTION:Lian Quan Zhen \nWE REGRET THAT THIS WORKSHOP HAS BEEN CANCELLED EFFECTIVE APRIL 3RD\, 2021. \n  \nLian Zhen is a sought after watercolor and Chinese painting artist and teacher. He is one of the most popular authors of Northlight Books. Her has many shows in the US\, Hong Kong and China and has developed an international following. His paintings hang in institutional and private collections\, including the MIT Museum which has 14 of his paintings. \nLians’ 5 books are published by Northlight Books. They were main selections for Northlight Book club members. In 2015\, Northlight Books for the first time\, chose 2 live artists among all its’ authors to make two coffee table books. Lian was one of those two selected and his book is entitled: “CHINESE WATERCOLOR JOURNEY WITH LIAN QUAN ZHEN”. \n  \nThis is an online workshop via Zoom – Invitation will be sent from the Artist. \n  \n  \nSunflower Chinese painting \nBlue Heron Watercolor \nAbout this BWS Class he says “This class I will be teaching two types of paintings:  One and a half days of Chinese painting and another one and a half days of regular watercolor.  Since we are painting Chinese painting\, students need the materials that are much different from regular watercolor.  Please see the Chinese painting material list at the bottom of the Workshops page on my website.  (https://www.lianspainting.com.)  I will bring the materials kit to the class for sale to those who do not have the Chinese painting materials.  The price for the whole kit is $35.00 but students can buy individual items “ \n  \n  \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Michael Holter \n  \n  \nOur first 3-day watercolor workshop of 2021 will be held virtually ! Entitled\, Faces and Places\, this workshop focuses on creating impressionistic paintings of people and landscapes. We will paint from photographs and explore the use of light and shadow to create interesting and dynamic compositions. Each day we will work on one or two paintings along with quick practice pieces. \nThe workshop instructor is Michael Holter\, an American watercolorist who is known for his powerful watercolor portraits and landscapes as well as his engaging workshops.  His work has received numerous awards\, been published in the NORTHLIGHT books issues and has been selected three times to the Fabriano (Italy) Watermedia Exhibition. \nDuring the workshop\, we examine the fundamentals of watercolor painting to assure that all levels of students are familiar with the techniques. Daily discussions and application of the principles and elements of design will be woven into your painting experience. DESCRIPTION:“Red Hat Ladies Share a Secret\,” by Alexis Lavine \nAlexis Lavine\, NWS\, WHS \n  \nA Message from Alexis Lavine\nTo all of the BWS members who were signed up for my worksop\, \nI am tremendously sorry and disappointed that we are unable to have our workshop together in May.  In the current climate of restricted gatherings and social distancing\, a workshop would just not be wise\, or healthy\, maybe not even “legal”.  And the workshop studio might be closed as well.  (Everything is closed and canceled around here\, and will be\, for some time.)  I am desperately hoping that things will be improving by May\, but I still do not expect them to be back to normal. \nI waited for two years for this workshop\, since it was first arranged\, and I was looking forward to meeting and working with all of you!  Perhaps it will happen at another time in the future … \nI do believe that right now\, more than at any other time in recent memory\, it is tremendously important for us to stay CONNECTED\, however we can\, to reach across the very high viral fence – to nurture our connections.  Never having met you\, that might seem like a strange statement\, but I would like to give you something\, to at least establish a tiny connection between us.  ART is a great way to do this! \nIf you scroll down below this\, you will find a description of a demo from a recent workshop.  After my workshops end\, I always email demo “recaps” like this one\, for every demo I present in the workshop.  I hope you find this interesting … perhaps you will want to follow it and make a similar painting … or maybe it will help you to go into your studio to resume work on your latest project.  (Believe me\, I myself could use some help many days lately!)  But regardless\, this is my way of reaching out to you – – and making a connection. \nI hope you are healthy\, and stay well and creative. \nI send this with my very best wishes\, \nAlexis \n  \nAlexis Lavine\, NWS \n  \nClick on the photos below to enlarge and to see caption:\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:25th Annual Splash of Watercolor Art Show
DESCRIPTION:The Brevard Watercolor Society’s 25th Annual Watercolor show\, “Splash of Watercolor”\, will be held Saturday and Sunday\, February 15th and 16th\, 2020\, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This event will take place at the Azan Shrine Temple\, 1591 W. Eau Gallie Boulevard\, Melbourne\, FL. Admission and parking are free. \n“Splash of Watercolor” will feature the largest exhibit and sale of watercolor paintings in Brevard County. Nearly 100 local artists\, many who have state and nationally-acclaimed works\, will be represented at the show. \n\nOriginal\, framed artwork will be available for sale in the main hall. In the Artists’ Marketplace\, prints\, cards\, and unframed originals will also be available for sale. Ongoing activities include raffle baskets\, silent auction\, and a paint-around with participants finishing each other’s paintings which are available for sale. \nSeveral demonstration events are scheduled during the “Splash of Watercolor” weekend show. All are entertaining and educational (and sometimes hilarious).

DESCRIPTION:THIS WORKSHOP IS NOW SOLD OUT.  REGISTRATION IS CLOSED!  Ed is taking names to be wait listed.  His email address is skywinded.art@gmail.com     \nThe very talented Ed Carlson is our instructor\, and the subject will be a snow scene (scroll down to see “Winter Road”). Please note time change on this workshop due to a local race\, 11:30am-3:30pm. \n\nMini workshops are free to members and are a great benefit of your membership. Our teachers are fantastic! These workshops are generally held every fourth Saturday most of the year from 10 am until 2 pm. Note that there is a time change for this workshop: 11:30 am to 3:30 pm. \nMini workshops are held in Wickham Park Community Center\, Room 1.  There is a limited amount of space in this room\, the capacity is 40 people. The teacher or the subject matter may further limit the number of participants. In the past\, we have had workshops that had a limit of 25 participants. Our Mini Workshop Chair\, Laurie Griffin\, recommends that you register early. Your registration is managed by contacting the teacher. If you have any comments or suggestions\, feel free to contact Laurie at lbgriffi@att.net. \n  \n\nSupplies \nPaints: Cerulean blue\, Prussian blue\, ultramarine blue\, purple (mauve\, or blue violet\, etc.)\, burnt sienna\, raw sienna\, Chinese white or white gouache. \nPaper: You can paint any size you prefer\, but be sure it’s 140# artist quality paper\, e.g. Arches \nSpecial supplies: Mist bottle\, something to scrape with\, e.g. old credit card\, tooth brush. And all your preferred brushes\, etc. \nThe painting is called “Winter Road”. Sketch will come later.

DESCRIPTION:“Community of Trees\,” by Kathie Benson \nEphemeral Watercolor Stamping \nKATHIE BENSON SAYS:\nWouldn’t it be great to incorporate your own designs into your artwork? Wouldn’t it be great to use designs that no one else has in your art? We are going to use items that may not last the day except in your compositions. \nEphemeral means lasting only briefly\, such as the bloom of a flower. We can take these fragile bits of nature and anything else that appeals to you and preserve their beauty in your own artistic compositions. Looking at the patterns in flowers and leaves close-up may inspire you to include them to provide interesting elements. \nWe will be arranging our ephemera (love that word) on our paper\, moving the different pieces around until the composition of shapes is pleasing to you. We will try an assortment of techniques to enhance each piece with color applied in different ways. In the end\, none of the original objects will remain on the paper unless you feel you absolutely must glue a few down. Bring “Yes!” glue or some other medium to glue pieces down if you think you want to do that. \nI will be bringing some dried orchids and other flowers and fresh items and leaves of exotic plants.
