DESCRIPTION: GETTING CREATIVE WITH YOUR “LEMONS” \nMini Workshop by Barbara Rios. Turn your disappointments into an opportunity to have FUN! Saturday\, May 28\, 10am – 3pm (extended time)\, Wickham Community Center\, bring a lunch! \nNot only did your painting not turn out to be a masterpiece\, but look at the money you wasted on expensive materials!  Don’t let this stifle the “child” in you to play\, experiment and be creative. What you perceive as a failure can be repurposed today or 10 years from now. Use the back\, add other materials\, throw it in the tub\, cut it up\,  gesso over it\, or keep to show how far you have advanced. How else do you expect to learn and finally create a something YOU are proud of? \nIf you are a watercolor purist\, your head may spin at all the materials that can be used to create “something [that] wasn’t before”.  Think like a child who\, as we know\, has absolutely no thought of cost! \nBring some of your “non Masterpieces” to work on\, exchange them with someone who sees promise. or to get the opinions of other artists.  You are encouraged to bring materials with which to experiment:  scissors\, acrylics\, tissue paper\, crayons\, markers\, scrap cloth\, pastels\, templates\, saran wrap\, found objects\, Mr. Clean pads\, rollers\, magazine cutouts\, WHATEVER you think will inspire you!  Barbara will provide many materials for your experimentation\, but a small contribution would be appreciated.  \nExamples of some of Barbara’s recreated artwork will be shown\, hopefully as inspiration. \nTo register\, please send email to Laurie at lbgriffi@att.net.  Attendance is limited to 30.  If something comes up and you are not able to attend please send Laurie an email and let us know so someone else can take your slot.

She will cover how to create natural skin tones and painting realistic eyes\, noses and mouths. If you are new to portraits this will be a great introduction or if you have been painting portraits a great refresher! \nBring your regular supplies\, watercolor paper and palette\, a #10 round brush with a good point and Winsor Newton paints\, New Gamboge (light yellow) and Scarlet Lake (red) which produce good flesh tones. Your other paints are fine. DESCRIPTION:This Event – Previously scheduled for November 2021 has been cancelled. \n\n \n\nVlad is no stranger to beautiful scenery. \nA Russian émigré\, he came to the US in the 1980s equipped with a classical art education from the Moscow School of Art and a masters’ degree in architecture from the Moscow Institute of Architecture.  He has traveled around the world to paint interesting cityscapes and landscapes.  But unlike many artists who are drawn to postcard perfect sites\, Vlad usually can be found around the back of a building\, along the street or in an alleyway\, capturing commonplace scenes. \nVlad is an exhibiting member of many art societies nationwide and a Signature member of the American Impressionistic Society\, the National Watercolor Society and the Florida Watercolor Society. \nHis work has been represented in print media in the USA and in Europe. \nVlad explains\, “The challenge with watercolor is to achieve the richness in color and not lose the transparency of watercolor”. \n

DESCRIPTION:Instructor – Jan Faerber \nInstructions:  \nIdeally you should use a quarter sheet  (15” x 11”) for this project.  If you open the attached line drawing in Adobe Acrobat select poster when you open the print dialog  and it will print the image across 2 8 1/2” x 11” pieces of paper that you can piece back together to trace. \nDraw lightly with pencil from lined picture given \, the actual leaves and their shadows on  11×15\, 140# watercolor paper.   \nShade lightly the shadows with pencil.  \nUse your regular palette and supplies.  It’s easier to have Payne’s gray or a substitute ready for the shadows\, but we will be dropping some colors into the shadows while they are wet.  We will be learning about shadows as they come close to objects and how they look the farther away they become.  There are diffuse shadows in the background   of the photo  from a palm tree that is not shown.   \n  \nWeb – Please contact Laurie Griffin\, lbgriffi@att.net for meeting information

DESCRIPTION:Lian Quan Zhen \nWE REGRET THAT THIS WORKSHOP HAS BEEN CANCELLED EFFECTIVE APRIL 3RD\, 2021. \n  \nLian Zhen is a sought after watercolor and Chinese painting artist and teacher. He is one of the most popular authors of Northlight Books. Her has many shows in the US\, Hong Kong and China and has developed an international following. His paintings hang in institutional and private collections\, including the MIT Museum which has 14 of his paintings. \nLians’ 5 books are published by Northlight Books. They were main selections for Northlight Book club members. In 2015\, Northlight Books for the first time\, chose 2 live artists among all its’ authors to make two coffee table books. Lian was one of those two selected and his book is entitled: “CHINESE WATERCOLOR JOURNEY WITH LIAN QUAN ZHEN”. \n  \nThis is an online workshop via Zoom – Invitation will be sent from the Artist. \n  \n  \nSunflower Chinese painting \nBlue Heron Watercolor \nAbout this BWS Class he says “This class I will be teaching two types of paintings:  One and a half days of Chinese painting and another one and a half days of regular watercolor.  Since we are painting Chinese painting\, students need the materials that are much different from regular watercolor.  Please see the Chinese painting material list at the bottom of the Workshops page on my website.  (https://www.lianspainting.com.)  I will bring the materials kit to the class for sale to those who do not have the Chinese painting materials.  The price for the whole kit is $35.00 but students can buy individual items “ \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:3-Day Workshop with Michael Holter: "Faces and Places"
DESCRIPTION:Michael Holter \n  \n  \nOur first 3-day watercolor workshop of 2021 will be held virtually ! Entitled\, Faces and Places\, this workshop focuses on creating impressionistic paintings of people and landscapes. We will paint from photographs and explore the use of light and shadow to create interesting and dynamic compositions. Each day we will work on one or two paintings along with quick practice pieces. \nThe workshop instructor is Michael Holter\, an American watercolorist who is known for his powerful watercolor portraits and landscapes as well as his engaging workshops.  His work has received numerous awards\, been published in the NORTHLIGHT books issues and has been selected three times to the Fabriano (Italy) Watermedia Exhibition. \nDuring the workshop\, we examine the fundamentals of watercolor painting to assure that all levels of students are familiar with the techniques. Daily discussions and application of the principles and elements of design will be woven into your painting experience. Each day we will engage in exercises that allow us time to practice and share our work. \nThe BWS Faces and Places workshop will be held online March 14 – 16\, 2021 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Frank Spino will present the excellent video he recorded for the Florida Watercolor Society. His presentation\, “Studio Tips”\, included lots of information on organizing your art life – your studio\, your art work and entries in art shows. Frank will be available after the presentation to answer any questions. \nAfter Frank’s presentation\, Lynn Tweed will guide us through painting some beautiful beach scenes. We’ll be painting 2 or 3 mini beach scenes with dunes inspired by photos Lynn took while visiting Cumberland Island. Lynn will be painting 6 x 4 inch sheets\, but you can paint larger if you choose.
