SUMMARY:Barbara Brook 2-Day Workshop - Watercolor Batik on Rice Paper
DESCRIPTION:WATERCOLOR BATIK ON RICE PAPER\n2-Day Workshop\n \nArtist:\nBarbara Brook \nDates:\nSunday\, March 10\, 2024 @ 9am-4pm\nMonday\, March 11\, 2024 @ 9am-4pm \nLocation:\nHester Wagner Community House \nDetails:\nLearn the basics of batik painting with returning artist and BWS Member\, Barbara Brook. The batik process involves repeatedly alternating layers of wax with watercolor paint. There is mystery and excitement involved as the painting progresses\, because it becomes increasingly difficult to see the colors and images as the wax builds up. Then\, like magic\, when the wax is removed a beautiful painting emerges. \nDuring this two day workshop we will transform a photo of the beautiful Iris into a batik painting and then paint Great White Egrets on day two. Regardless of whether you are a beginner or an advanced painter\, you will enjoy this unique process of layering paint and wax on textured rice paper. \nBarbara will be our demo guest at the General Meeting\, 1-3 pm\, Saturday\, March 9\, 2024\, Wickham Park Community Center. \nThe rice paper\, melting pots\, and wax will be supplied. Full supply list will appear after registration is complete. \nCOST:\n$275 for Members\n$350 for Non-Members \nSpace is limited to 20 participants. Please register below: \nWe're sorry\, this workshop has reached its maximum entry capacity. Please email Teri Mahnken at bwspresident@outlook.com if you wish to be added to the waiting list.

SUMMARY:Watercolors of Olde Brevard
DESCRIPTION:Members of the Brevard Watercolor Society (BWS) will present Watercolors of Olde Brevard\, a series of watercolors based on pre-1955 photos of Brevard County\, at the Eau Gallie Library on Nov 6 – Dec 2\, 2023. \nHistorical societies and local residents provided BWS with original black and white photos that reveal the history and life of Brevard County prior to 1955. BWS artists applied their color interpretation of these old photos to create colorful paintings that showcase a sampling of transportation\, people\, agriculture\, buildings and boats. This year’s show will include 18 paintings; a small description of the scene will accompany each painting. The paintings may also be purchased for your collection. \nBWS originally created this series of paintings back in 2000 under the leadership of show chair Therese Ferguson. It proved so popular that it was repeated with different photos for three years running. Each year\, the exhibition traveled to locations including Kennedy Space Center\, the Florida Capitol\, Evans Library\, King Center and several of the Historical Society buildings in Brevard. Therese has brought the show back once again to showcase the history and life of Brevard County. \nFor information\, contact Therese Ferguson 321-749-6962. \nPR Contact: Kimber Musacchio\nkimberem@gmail.com\n321-446-9437

SUMMARY:Paint-along with Vlad Yeliseyev on July 22\, 12 – 4 via Zoom.
DESCRIPTION:Cost is $70 for members\, $95 for nonmembers. \nTo register please send an email to lbgriffi@att.net.  The website is being setup for you to pay online –  https://brevardwatercolorsociety.org/events/category/workshops/ or mail a check to \nLaurie Griffin \n4825 Winchester Drive \nTitusville\, FL 32780. \nPlease register as soon as possible so we can provide the number of participants to Vlad by July 1st and confirm our event.  The picture we will be painting\, is below.  Vlad is currently traveling and painting in Croatia and will pick a scene from his current trip for us.  If you have questions please contact Laurie Griffin\, lbgriffi@att.net. \n  \n \nAbout Vlad:\nVlad Yeliseyev is a  Russian émigré came to the United States in the 1980s equipped with a classical art education from Moscow School of Art and a Master’s Degree in architecture from the Moscow Institute of Architecture. Now a renowned watercolor and plein air artist\, his paintings are in personal and commercial collections worldwide. Vladislav currently works from his studio in Sarasota\, Florida\, where he spends most of the day painting. “I am a constant student of my craft\,” he admits. His work is often praised for his unique ability to reflect light in his paintings. Critics noted his bold brushwork\, expert loose color passages\, and crisp well edited calligraphy in his paintings. To achieve this effect\, Vladislav (Vlad) prefers to use rough watercolor paper and combinations of brush techniques. “The challenge with watercolor\,” Vlad explains\, “is to achieve richness in color and not to lose the transparency.” With painstaking use of limited brushwork in his art\, Vlad creates paintings which give a sense of depicted objects rather than their details\, while maintaining the transparent colors unique to watercolor. “I use a palette of warm colors a lot\, like ochre and burnt umber\,” says Vlad. “I now just use 15 colors in my palette.” Look for his favorite colors – burnt sienna\, cobalt turquoise\, gold ochre – in the majority of his artwork.  “There should be something not said in a painting\, something that gives the luxury of interpretation to the viewer. And there lies the poetry”\, he says “Poetry on the page is minimalistic in the number of words it uses. The challenge for me as an artist is how to say a lot with minimal brushstrokes”. Vladislav has won numerous awards and is an exhibiting member of many art societies nationwide\, and a signature member of American Impressionist Society\, National Watercolor Society\, and Florida Watercolor Society. \nIn my paintings I would like to express the beauty of landscapes through variation of natural light conditions and individual approaches to interpretation of color in real life. I would like not to merely pick up the colors from the natural environment but to reinvent them right on my canvas.  My goal is to express the beauty of various landscapes and cityscapes by showing architectural elements\, street life and their playful integration with the light conditions. \n  \nThe picture we will be painting:\n  \n \nhttps://www.yeliseyevfineart.com/ \nREGISTRATION FORM\nPlease enable JavaScript in your browser to complete this form.Name *FirstLastPhone *Email *Membership Status *Member - $70.00Non-Members - $95.00NameSubmit & Pay \n

Painting and drawing techniques such as cropping\, collaging\, painting with washes\, creating textures\, and composing strata pieces will be demonstrated. \n  \n \n  \nBWS is covering the cost of this event for members.\nNon-members are invited to attend for $5\n(must be paid in advance in order to receive connection details.) \nTo register please contact Laurie Griffin\, lbgriffi@att.net – (321) 544-3041. \nMore about the artist: \nPat Dews\, a graduate of The Fashion Institute of Technology\, New York City is a signature member and Dolphin Fellow of the American Watercolor Society\, the National Watercolor Society\, the National Collage Society\, the New Jersey Water Color Society\, San Diego Watercolor Society\, and the Florida Watercolor Society. \nDews’ creates experimental works in watermedia on paper and canvas.  She paints the abstract essence of nature.  The shapes and textures of flowers\, rocks\, water\, crumbled walls\, rusty objects are translated into richly layered paint surfaces.  Collage is often integrated.  Dews skillfully juggles organic and geometric forms\, transparent and opaque paint – all held together by a basic abstract underlying shape.  It is this intricate dance\, rendered in strong color and value which produces her award-winning paintings.  When Pat paints\, it is a lively\, fascinating performance as she shows that\, with the simplest tools\, less can become more\, much more. \nPat’s awards include Second Place in the 33rd Annual Artist’s Magazine\, Abstract/Experimental category for her painting\, “Overpass.” Dews’ received the Mary Bryan Memorial Award at the American Watercolor Society 150th International Exhibition 2017\, the Edgar Whitney Memorial Award at the 149th American Watercolor International Exhibition\, 2016\, the Paul B. Remmey\, AWS\, Memorial Award at the 148th American Watercolor Society International Exhibition\, 2015\, and the China Zou Yinong Silver Award-China/NWS Small Image Exhibition\, 2016. SUMMARY:2 Day Workshop with Barbara Brook "Know Your Pallet" March 12-13\, 2023
DESCRIPTION:After many years of painting with oils\, Barbara began watercolor painting in 1991 A watercolor self portrait\, painted by her grandmother\, was her inspiration. Barbara was intrigued by the delicate brush strokes and soft\, transparent colors\, so totally different from painting with oils. \nMost of her paintings are inspired by photos she has taken during travels around the U.S. as well as  Europe\, Asia\, and Great Britain. Often a scene will capture her attention because of shadows cast by sunlight. Whether it is a picture of nature\, doors and windows on old buildings\, intriguing faces\, or an Italian fishing boat she usually knows that it will eventually become a painting. \nBarbara tries to chose subjects to paint that will appeal to others for their beauty or to capture the emotion of a scene\, such as lights glistening through a crystal vase\, or a serene landscape. Catching a glimpse of people’s everyday life also appeals to her. Evoking an emotion in the viewer is her primary purpose for painting. Her passion for painting allows her to share that love with others. \nBarbara’s paintings have earned numerous awards and recognition. She is a member of the SouthernWatercolor Society\, the Transparent Watercolor Society of America\, the Watercolor Society of North Carolina\, where she lives\, as well as the Brevard Watercolor Society. Her paintings can be see on her  website: barbaras-watercolors.com. \n“My method of teaching is to demonstrate\, while teaching techniques\, and then to give individual attention while students repeat what has been demonstrated.” \nThis class is designed to teach various techniques\, unique to watercolor painting\, and to take the frustration out of color mixing. We will explore the value of values in our paintings and the benefits of glazing. The class is for beginner and intermediate painters \n \n  \nBarbara Brook 2-day workshop registration form (ID #4112)Please enable JavaScript in your browser to complete this form.Name *FirstLastPhone *Email *Membership Status *BWS Member - - $275.00Non-Member - - $350.002 Day Workshop with Barbara Brook\n” Know Your Pallet”\nMarch 12 and 13\, 2023\, 9am-4pm each day\n Hester Wagner Community House\n6100 W Hall Drive\nMelbourne Village\, FL 32904\n $275 for BWS Members\, $350 for non-members\nSingle Line TextMessageSubmit & Pay

SUMMARY:3- Day Workshop: PAT DEWS “ABSTRACTING NATURE”
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nPat Dews\, a graduate of The Fashion Institute of Technology\, New York City is a signature member and Dolphin Fellow of the American Watercolor Society\, the National Watercolor Society\, the National Collage Society\, the New Jersey Water Color Society\, and the Florida Watercolor Society. \nDews creates experimental works in watermedia on paper and canvas. \n \nPat’s awards include Second Place in the 33rd Annual Artist’s Magazine\, Abstract/Experimental category for her painting\, “Overpass.” Dews’ received the Mary Bryan Memorial Award at the American Watercolor Society 150th International Exhibition 2017\, the Edgar Whitney Memorial Award at the 149th American Watercolor International Exhibition\, 2016\, the Paul B. Remmey\, AWS\, Memorial Award at the 148th American Watercolor Society International Exhibition\, 2015\, and the China Zou Yinong Silver Award-China/NWS Small Image Exhibition\, 2016. Dews’ paintings were represented in the 2015 Small Image Exchange and the 2015 Shenzhen International Biennial Exhibition\, China. \n  \nTo Register\, please complete the form below \nPlease enable JavaScript in your browser to complete this form.Name *FirstLastPhone *Email *Membership Status *BWS Member - $275Non-Member - $350NameSubmit & Pay
