She will demonstrate how she has used table salts\, Saran Wrap\, bubble wrap\, tissue paper\, and shaved watercolor pencils to add texture and interest in her paintings. You’ll then create your unique landscape or abstract. You decide… you’re the artist! \n\n“Dockside Blues” by Lolly Walton \nSupplies\nLolly will supply the following for our use during the workshop: \n\nSaran Wrap\, bubble wrap\, salts\, wax crayons\nAttendees should bring their usual watercolor supplies\nIf you have additional materials such as\, watercolor pencils a pencil sharpener\, marbles\, or tissue paper (bleeding type)\, Mr. Clean erasers\, bring them along!\n\nAbout the Artist\nIt wasn’t until 1997 when Lolly Walton took watercolor classes at Miami Dade Community College that she became “hooked on watercolor.” Then when she and her husband retired and moved to Melbourne she decided to devote her time to what she loves\, which is watercolor. She hit the ground running and hasn’t stopped. Lolly’s artwork reflects her passion for color\, texture\, and creativity. As Lolly says\, “There is so much to capture on paper and “creativity is endless.” \nLolly’s art can be seen at Fifth Avenue Gallery and Strawbridge Art Gallery. She is currently teaching at the Sebastian River Art Club and soon to be teaching at Central Brevard Art Association in Rockledge. Teaching points are: Creating the illusion of depth with color\, shadows and values. And\, painting reflections. \nArtists will use: \n\ncerulean blue\nultramarine blue deep\nhooker’s green deep\nraw sienna\, burnt sienna\npermanent red deep\nblue violet\nlemon yellow\n\nSketch will be provided in the confirmation reminder email to the registrants\, one week before the workshop. \nAbout the Artist\nEd Carlson captures the charm of weathered fishing shacks\, quiet waterways\, and coastal life in his expressive watercolor paintings. Originally from upstate New York and now based in Satellite Beach\, Ed paints the places he loves most—scenes full of light\, texture\, and timeworn beauty. His work reveals a fascination with the character of old coastal structures\, their crooked lines\, sun-bleached wood\, and the way light shifts across their surfaces throughout the day. His subjects range from nautical vignettes and tropical landscapes to snowy scenes that recall his northern upbringing\, each piece infused with atmosphere and storytelling. \nIn addition to his own work\, Ed shares his love of watercolor through teaching. His playful\, encouraging approach helps students loosen up\, take risks\, and rediscover the joy of painting—whether by experimenting with unconventional brushes or learning to see with a childlike sense of wonder. SUMMARY:Quick Sketch Portraits in Watercolor with Pam Wenger
DESCRIPTION:Learn to paint portraits in watercolor in a spontaneous style that involves minimal layering and the use of transparent colors. In this workshop\, we will analyze some of the common mistakes that are made when working on portraits in watercolor and look at examples of successful watercolor portraits by artists from around the world. \n“My portrait paintings are my real love – it’s hard to explain the excitement of trying to connect with the essence of a person through their expression… their pose… their placement in the composition.” – Pam Wenger \nPainting portraits in watercolor can seem like a daunting task\, but many of us can’t resist the urge to try it. We may have a loved one who we’d like to paint or we may simply be drawn to the challenge of capturing an interesting character on paper. It’s so easy to “tighten up” our portrait paintings because of our focus on “getting it right.” \nIn this 3-Day workshop you will focus on loosening up the portrait painting process and working to achieve a more relaxed look that highlights the beauty and freshness of the watercolor medium. DESCRIPTION:The Brevard Watercolor Society’s annual art show\, “Splash! of Watercolor”\, will be held Saturday and Sunday\, February 14th and 15th\, 2026\, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm both days. This event will take place at the Azan Shriners Center\, 1591 W. Eau Gallie Boulevard\, Melbourne\, FL. Admission and parking are free. \n“Splash! of Watercolor” features the largest exhibit and sale of watercolor paintings in Brevard County. Nearly 100 local artists\, many who have state and nationally-acclaimed works\, will be represented at the show. Student artwork from local colleges and high schools will also be presented. \nOriginal\, framed artwork will be available for sale in the main hall. Prints\, cards\, and unframed originals will also be available for sale in the adjacent Artists’ Marketplace. Ongoing activities include raffle baskets\, silent auction\, and a paint-around with participants finishing each other’s paintings which are available for sale. \nSeveral demonstration events are scheduled throughout the weekend (click here). Paper will be provided. \nSince I suspect most people wouldn’t mind being uninhibited again (painting-wise) again for 3 hours\, the first 10 people who want to have a place to paint need to text Barb at 321/446-6154 WITH YOUR NAME!  \nThe next 10 can come next Thursday 2/26.
